Thief's Crusade

What is it?

A Nintendo DS RPG mixed with stealth, action, and adventure. Originally it was going to be for a console. You know, beautiful 3D models and everything - think Final Fantasy. Then the Nintendo DS came along. Suddenly, it just seemed right. Thieves = pickpockets = stylus. And Kristiann and Riisha are both fans of 2D sprites. (Although we're not sure whether it's 2D or 3D.)

Why make it?

We thought of this game because RPGs are both our favorite genre. And then we came across the Grand List of RPG cliches. It was so funny, but at the same time we thought of challenging it. Could we make an RPG that actually broke the mold - by doing the opposite of everything on the list? Of course, we couldn't do everything - some were caused by programming limitations - but everything story and plotwise, we wanted to make sure we steered clear from the old school.

The plot revolves around a group of young thieves that aren't really out to save the world. Oh, and they go to thief school.

You get your standard RPG battles (of course, with a twist, but we wanted to keep some RPG elements in to make it feel like an RPG) but since this is a game about thieves, there's a lot of thievery involved as well. For example, houses and stores in town? You can go in and chat up the owner/storekeeper, and pay for what you like. But why do that when you can wait when he's not looking your way... then go into "Thief Mode" and grab anything off the shelves using the stylus?

There's also "Teamwork Mode" where the group can do what we call an "Ocean's Eleven". Basically you can assign roles to each of the people in your group a certain task - your charmer distracts the innocent townsperson while your quickest member goes for the loot.

More Information

Thief's Crusade actually has its own wiki! Why? Because it's "our precious".
